FUNCTIONAL CONTRAST THERAPY

Three minutes of whole-body air cryotherapy at −110°C, followed immediately by 10 minutes of infrared-only warmth—one screened, coach-led recovery experience.

CRYO

3 minutes at -110°C

IR

10 minutes at 50°C rewarm
Evidence-led by design

Two researched thermal tools. One carefully defined protocol.

Cold and far-infrared heat have each been studied as recovery modalities. Direct clinical trials of QUANTUM’s exact sequence—CRYO followed by 10 minutes of infrared—are not yet available. We therefore explain the evidence for each stage separately and do not promise a proven “synergy”.

The functional difference

Cold first

Warm second

Purpose throughout

“Functional” means every stage has a defined job. The cold exposure is brief, dry and supervised. The infrared step is short, calm and limited to rewarming. It is not a full PEMF Lounge treatment and it is not a long sauna session.
EXTREME COLD

CRYO CHAMBER

  • Cold receptors respond rapidly. Superficial blood vessels constrict and the body prioritises core temperature while you remain in continuous contact with your Coach.

  • Three-minute dry whole-body exposure
  • Prescribed time and temperature
  • Protective clothing and PPE
GENTLE HEAT

IR - RED BED

  • Cold PPE is removed and infrared warmth is applied for 10 minutes. As the body rewarms, superficial circulation and skin temperature naturally move back toward baseline.

  • Infrared heat only
  • Relaxed, supported position
  • No PEMF, red light or vibroacoustics
What it may help support

Recovery outcomes, without the hype.

The most defensible benefits relate to perceived recovery, short-term muscle comfort and a supervised return from cold to warmth. Responses are individual and this is not a treatment for disease or injury.
Post-exercise recovery
Whole-body cryotherapy has been studied for short-term recovery of muscle function and perceived soreness after demanding exercise. Results vary by protocol and person.
Evidence: developing
Muscle soreness support
Cold and infrared heat have each shown potential to improve perceived recovery in small athletic studies. They have not yet been proven to be additive when combined.
Separate-modality evidence
A more comfortable rewarm
The infrared stage replaces passive waiting with a short, supervised warming period designed to restore comfort after extreme cold.
Protocol rationale
Movement readiness
Clients may feel warmer, looser and more comfortable after the transition. That feeling is not the same as healing an injury or guaranteeing performance gains.
Experience-led outcome
Warmth & circulation response
Cold narrows superficial blood vessels; rewarming allows them to reopen. Infrared heat adds gentle thermal input during that transition.
Physiological response
General wellbeing
A brief, coach-led cold-to-warm experience can form part of a considered recovery or wellbeing routine when screening shows it is appropriate.
Individual response

Evidence, translated honestly

What research can—and cannot—tell us.

Research protocols often use different temperatures, durations, populations and devices. A finding from a 20- or 30-minute infrared session cannot be assumed for QUANTUM’s 10-minute rewarm.
Whole-body cryotherapy Small trials and expert reviews report possible improvements in perceived soreness and some recovery measures, but results are mixed and high-quality evidence remains limited.
Infrared Heat Separate studies suggest infrared sauna exposure may help perceived soreness and neuromuscular recovery after exercise. Most use longer exposures than this protocol.
The exact combination There are no direct trials proving extra benefit from immediately pairing −110°C whole-body air cryotherapy with a 10-minute infrared rewarm. The combination is a reasoned service design, not a proven medical treatment.

Use with intention

Suggested frequency by goal.

Start conservatively, monitor how you feel and review before increasing frequency. These are practical starting ranges—not medical prescriptions or guarantees of outcome.
GOAL
STARTING POINT
TIMING
REVIEW
First experience / general wellbeing
1 session per week
Try 2–3 sessions before judging your personal response.
Continue occasionally or weekly if well tolerated.
Active lifestyle recovery
1–2 sessions per week
Place after demanding activity or on a recovery day; initially allow about 48 hours between sessions.
Review soreness, sleep, energy and training quality after 2–4 weeks.
Competition / heavy training block
Up to 2–3 sessions per week
Use as a short, individualised block after tolerance is established—not as an automatic daily treatment.
Coach review after 1–2 weeks; reduce when the high-load period ends.
Strength or muscle-building priority
Use selectively
Avoid making intense cold an automatic finish to every resistance session. Timing should reflect the athlete’s recovery and adaptation priorities.
Discuss placement with your QUANTUM Coach or performance professional.
PERFORMANCE NOTE
Evidence that frequent cold-water immersion may reduce some muscle-growth adaptations should not be automatically transferred to air cryotherapy—but it is a good reason to periodise cold rather than use it reflexively after every strength session.

Your booking, step by step

From screening to rewarming.

01 - SCREEN Health check & goal Your Coach reviews your intake, current health, medications, blood pressure requirements and the reason for your visit.
02 - PREPARE Dry skin & CRYO PPE Use the changeroom inside the CRYO room to change into an approved, dry, metal-free base layer. QUANTUM supplies and fits the required socks, CRYO boots, gloves, outer mitts and beanie.
03 - COLD CRYO Chamber You complete three minutes of whole-body air cryotherapy at −110°C under direct Coach supervision.
04 - TRANSITION Move directly to IR Cold-weather PPE is removed and your Coach settles you onto the Longevity Lounge for the warming stage.
05 - WARM 10 minutes infrared-only Infrared heat supports a calm, controlled rewarm. PEMF, red/NIR light, vibroacoustics and gemstone programs remain off for this service.
BOOKING FORMAT
CRYO Chamber + 10-minute IR add-on
INFRARED ALLOCATION
15 minutes including transition

ARRIVE READY

What to wear - What to remove.

Wear a clean, completely dry, metal-free base layer. A changeroom is available inside the CRYO room, and QUANTUM supplies all required CRYO PPE. If you are unsure about an item, bring an alternative and ask your Coach.
Private changing space provided
Change into approved base clothing inside the CRYO room before your PPE fitting. You do not need to arrive wearing CRYO gear.
Your base clothing
  • Clean, completely dry skin and clothing
  • Thin, breathable, close-fitting, metal-free shorts or underwear
  • For women: a wireless, metal-free sports bra/crop top or approved fitted top
  • Light-coloured fabric is preferred for the IR stage, although dryness, fit and thickness matter more
  • Your medication list and any requested medical clearance
Do not wear
  • Wet or sweaty training clothing
  • Metal zips, buttons, poppers/snaps, hooks, clasps, buckles, studs, rivets, eyelets, boning, adjusters or drawstring ends
  • Underwire bras or bras with metal hooks, rings, sliders or adjusters
  • Metallic, silver/copper-infused, conductive, heated or electronic garments
  • Thick compression layers, heavy fleece, shapewear or bulky garments

Non-removable or intimate piercing?
Contact QUANTUM before booking for a confidential review. A clitoral, labial or other genital ring must be removed if it can be removed safely. Covering metal with tape or a bandage is not automatically accepted and should never be assumed to make the session safe.
Come normally hydrated, avoid alcohol and do not arrive overheated or perspiring from exercise. Stop and tell your Coach if anything feels painful, numb, excessively cold, too hot or otherwise wrong. Your Coach’s safety directions take priority over this public guide.

QUANTUM safety standards

The strictest contraindication always applies.

Because this service combines extreme cold and heat, you must be suitable for both stages. Every client completes screening and informed consent; your Coach may postpone or decline a session.
